A list article is one of the easiest article styles to execute. When you think about it, presenting information by listing each point is much easier than creating longer paragraphs. Much depends on where you will be submitting your list article but always ensure that you've gathered accurate information and that the points you offer are spot-on and timely.
To illustrate why the list article format is an effective and easy method for article creation, think about when you write out a grocery list. You normally just list the items you need, right? Your list is time-saving because it doesn't detail unnecessary information . . . can you see why writing a list article would be easier for you? You don't have to create long paragraphs and can present your information in a format that is easy to write and easily digestible for readers.
Writing a List Article
Okay, let's get started. A list article is generally comprised of a title, an introductory paragraph, a list, and a concluding paragraph. But, before you write your article, you'll have to decide on a topic.
Choosing a Topic for Your List Article--Narrow or Broad?
- Narrow: 10 Tricks to Reduce Wrinkles could be an article considered to have a narrower focus, because those interested in this subject will be adults and your article addresses one problem.
- Broad: An article such as Canada's Best Mountain Get-Aways is broad and you will have to give thought as to how to round it out. One of the best ways to do this would be to consider who might be interested in Canada's mountain get-aways (families, honeymooners, couples, students, hiking groups, vacationers) and offer information that would appeal to these parties.
It might help to narrow your focus. For example, instead of: Top 10 Green Cleaning Tips (which could encompass any number of tips), 10 Everyday Products for Green Cleaning might be more suitable.
Let's go with the latter example as we work through the next steps in writing a list article.
Create an Opening Paragraph
Your opening paragraph should describe the information your list article offers to readers.
Example:
You can green clean inexpensively by choosing common and safe household products to make your home shine from top to bottom.
Create a Numbered List
Rough out your list, adding ideas as you think of them. Use your number tool so that each time you hit enter, sequential numbers are added automatically. When you've settled on the number of items in your list, describe each one.
Example:
- Vinegar is an . . .
Once you've comprised your list, write a concluding paragraph recapping what has been learned.
Example:
Now, you are fully equipped to green clean your home. Using these 10 everyday products will save you money and help you transition to environmentally friendly cleaning for mere pennies.
Titling Your List Article
I recommend coming up with a title for your list article last. You may find as your article develops, it changes, and this would necessitate changing your title to suit.
Recap to writing a list article:
- Title
- Opening paragraph
- Numbered List
- Concluding paragraph
