Reflections on the Lunacy of So-Called Writing Payments

In my recent post: One of My Pet Peeves About Job Listings, I'd mentioned that it really ticks me off when no payment information is mentioned at job sites. My reasoning was: how do you feel motivated to apply for a job when you haven't the foggiest regarding compensation?

Today, I visited another site looking for job postings to include at Write and Earn a Living and I came across a job posting promising higher than usual pay rates for writers. I thought it looked promising and checked it out.

What a joke. The guy wanted an article writer that could pump out numerous keyword optimized articles. What was his wonderful pay rate per article? $3.00. This is outrageous. Why would anyone research, write, proofread, edit and insert keywords into an article for $3.00?

He then offered this additional "incentive": writers who he deemed reliable and fast would be offered a bonus of $5.00 for their article. He seemed to feel that the grand total of $8.00 per article was somehow stellar.

How many trained writers are willing to work for chump change? He might have been better off directing out-of work writers to a local gas station or a restaurant for employment. They would probably make far more.

It's been a neat experience to see my book on Ebay--rather exciting, I'll admit. The Bedbug book shipment is in Australia right now and we are tracking its progress to Japan.
