Beware of Poetry Scams: Poets should be paid upon publication, not pay to see their work in print.

One author received glowing praise for his work and became suspicious. He decided to test a questionable poetry contest, suspecting that most, if not all, of what was sent in was accepted for publication.

He discovered the contest was window dressing for a vanity publisher--with a perfect cash cow: capitalize on the hopes and dreams of would-be poets by charging them to see their poems in print . . .

Whew. Good thing I suck at poetry, and I have never attempted to join any contest. Thanks for sharing this very helpful info.
